About
The communities of North Central West Virginia are known for their generosity. Neighbors are quick to respond when friends or family are in need. The community hospitals of Davis Health System are committed to providing affordable care for everyone. DHS Foundation is your partner in advancing healthcare through giving.
The Foundation provides annual support of programs and services at Davis Medical Center (Elkins), Broaddus Hospital & Mansfield Place (Philippi), and Webster Memorial Hospital (Webster Springs). Community support provides expert staff, state-of-the-art treatments, and cutting-edge technologies throughout the Potomac Highlands of North Central West Virginia – so that our neighbors, friends, and families can go beyond routine care without going far from home.
Since 2012, the Davis House has offered cancer patients a “home away from home” when it is necessary to travel to the DMC Cancer Care Center for treatment. Community volunteers raised funds to renovate the home and create an endowment of more than $500,000 to provide complimentary lodging so that our patients can focus on what matters most – getting well.
Through the Foundation’s Transforming Care TogethER Campaign, $1.7 million was contributed toward the $4.3 million dollar renovation and expansion of the DMC Myles Emergency Center. This state-of-the-art emergency department features private exam and treatment rooms, specialized trauma bays, and innovative technology.
Each year, donors to the Cancer Patient Assistance Fund provide nearly 500 patients with more than $25,000 worth of medications, medical supplies, nutritional supplements, lodging, transportation, wigs, and dental care. Each cancer patient also receives a LiveWell kit with makeup and/or skincare items and tips on how to feel better about their looks – and outlooks – while receiving treatment. The Fund also provides a Free Mammogram Program for patients referred by DHS providers.
The Guardian Angel Patient Assistance Fund and the Noronha Fund provide financial support to DMC patients for medically necessary items and services that contribute directly to their overall health, wellness, and quality of life.
Our community responded with unprecedented generosity and support for the Foundation’s COVID-19 Relief Fund. Gifts of more than $100,000 to our #ProtectTheHeroes project purchased PPE for hospital employees and volunteers and equipment for Davis Medical Center’s operating room, emergency department, general inpatient unit, and Laurel Place Geri-psych unit.
Each year the Foundation awards a recipient residing in Randolph, Barbour, Tucker, Pocahontas, Webster or Upshur Counties in West Virginia and merit support for training beyond the high school level in health related post-secondary training program through scholarship. Scholarships will be granted to one or more students entering a two or four-year college program or pursing a certification in the healthcare field. Consideration may be given to past recipients if merited.
Better health begins at birth – with safe sleep, proper nutrition, and early childhood brain development. The family of each newborn at Davis Medical Center receives a Davis Baby Bundle containing special welcome gifts and educational materials for new parents. Community contributions also fund DMC’s provider-based Reach Out and Read program where pediatricians share information and resources with parents and give each child a complimentary, age-appropriate book during routine check-ups.
Inspired by Dr. Mason Todd Corder’s care for his patients and passion for helping others enter the medical field, the DHS Foundation Scholarship recognizes and supports students who are continuing their studies in a healthcare-related field.
